I’ve joined Revver

September 30, 2007 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  shameless plugs No Comments →

Hi all. Just a quick note to say that I’ve joined Revver. As such, I’ve posted my movie there as well. It looks better on Revver than on YouTube. So, if you aren’t one of the 11,000+ YouTube viewers who have watched yet, I suggest you check it out at Revver instead.

BTW, if you have watched it already, don’t be afraid to watch it again. As of this posting, it only has 15 views (as compared to over 11,000 views, almost 30 comments and over 80 favorites on YouTube), and this makes it look sad.

In my ongoing efforts to promote “green” topics, I am participating in Blog Action Day. Think of it as a virtual march on Washington D.C., let your neo-hippie freak flag fly and join the masses if you can. Learn more by clicking the banner below:

Bloggers Unite - Blog Action Day

On October 15th, I will be posting about a Chicago building LEED project that I am personally involved in. The project is part of the November GreenBuild event. If you are going to be in Chicago (or have the means to get there) November 7-9, I highly recommend you check it out in person.

Best Buy Mistake and Apology

September 21, 2007 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  marketing, *DUMB, *WISE 2 Comments →

I received the e-mail below from Best Buy. On one hand, I admire the straight-forwardness and think may be savvy marketing move on their part. On the other hand, I never would have known they made a mistake nor would I have thought of them as being cheap for just not honoring the ad. It’s a $1000 difference between the 42″ vs the 50″, so that likely does mean they would be selling the 50″ sets at a loss. What I wonder is how many would they sell at a loss versus the negative feelings they might be generating plus however much money the $100 discounts on all brands of Plasma would come to. What ends up them costing them more, the approach they took or just not publicizing it?

What do you think?

As a valued Best Buy customer, we want to inform you of an error that will appear in the September 23, 2007 Best BuyTM ad. On the front cover we mistakenly listed the price of the 50″ Panasonic Plasma TV (TH_50PZ77U- 8501711) at $1799, before $90 savings. We intended to advertise the 42″ Panasonic Plasma TV (TH-42PZ77U-8501757) at $1799, before $90 savings.

Best Buy will not be honoring this price on the aforementioned 50″ Panasonic Plasma TV.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will offer a $100 Instant Rebate on all Plasma Televisions from Sunday, September 23, 2007 through Saturday, September 29, 2007. This Instant Rebate will be deducted from the price you see in the store, including our regular sale prices.

Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you in our store soon.

PlaySpan

September 20, 2007 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  technology, *WISE No Comments →

Ever feel like you haven’t accomplished enough in your life or that if you just applied yourself a bit more you would be even more successful. Well, gather up all of those feelings and lock them away, or at least make sure you have no sharp objects or firearms nearby and check out this kid.

His name is Arjun Mehta, a 6th grader, and the founder of PlaySpan. PlaySpan started in Arjun’s garage in Silicon Valley in 2006 and was incorporated with Arjun’s earnings from selling online game items won from quests he fought while attending 5th grade at Challenger School in San Jose.

His company recently raised $6.5 million in venture capital and has released its alpha version of its in-game commerce network.

Sarcasm Society

September 19, 2007 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  quotes, *WISE No Comments →

I just added the Sarcasm Society site to my link roll. There is some funny stuff there.

Hopefully the owner of that site (who only goes by the name of ‘V’) will check this site out when he/she receives notification about being added to my link roll. Anyway, if you do V, here is my contribution to your site for the sarcastic quotes section:

Are you always a wise ass?
No, sometimes I’m asleep.

This is my slightly modified version of something I took from author Jim Butcher.

Digital ‘Smiley Face’ Turns 25
PITTSBURGH (AP) — It was a serious contribution to the electronic lexicon. :-) Twenty-five years ago, Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman says, he was the first to use three keystrokes - a colon followed by a hyphen and a parenthesis - as a horizontal “smiley face” in a computer message.

Would you be proud or embarrassed if you were the inventor of the first emoticon?

This of course brings up the more important and socially significant question? Who was the first person to ever type 58008 or 55378008 into a calculator?

First certified ‘green’ restaurant

`Green’ Restaurant Puts Kaibosh on Trash

Ben Prentice and Barry Baker’s burgers and fries might clog your arteries, but they won’t expand the planet’s waste.

That’s because Prentice and Baker’s new Grille Zone restaurant is the nation’s first certified “green” fast-food outlet - a Kenmore Square eatery so environmentally friendly it generates almost no trash.

Kid’s artwork

September 14, 2007 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  non sequitur, comedy No Comments →

Today’s post is about a page I created: Kid’s art. Is this a heart-felt attempt to warn the innocent and prevent needless damage to the psyche’s of unsuspecting art lovers… or a blatant attempt to get more than two or three comments on one of my posts [even if hateful]? You decide.
