How it all began?

September 22, 2008 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  science, video, *WISE No Comments →

I have watched quite a few of the TED:Ideas worth spreading videos, and everyone I have seen has been great. This one in particular, on particles, is especially good:

An Apolgy to Darwin

September 16, 2008 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  religion, science, *WISE 2 Comments →

Rev Dr Malcolm Brown, Director of Mission and Public Affairs for the Church of England, states near the end of a public posting entitled “Good religion needs good science

Charles Darwin: 200 years from your birth, the Church of England owes you an apology for misunderstanding you and, by getting our first reaction wrong, encouraging others to misunderstand you still.

The post and its message is a step in the right direction, though, unfortunately, I expect we are going to be seeing a lot of “theistic evolution” talk/nonsense.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

RMH LogoI am raising money for the Rondal McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Some co-workers and I have formed a team, McBuilder with cheese, and will be participating in a Plane Pull (a tug-of-war versus a hefty Southwest Airlines 737 plane) and we are looking for sponsors. Our team goal is $4000, with each person on the team of 20 looking to raise $200 each. We hope to shatter the goal. If you would like to help, please go here:

LHC goes live… I didn’t feel a thing.

September 10, 2008 By: Mr. Wisdumb Category:  science, *WISE No Comments →

The LHC (Large Hadron Collider) gets put to work for the first time today. Some people expected the world to get blowed up real good when this happened. But no, bunches of protons at the highest energies ever generated by a machine, were collided head-on up to 30 million times a second, with each collision spewing out thousands of particles at nearly the speed of light, and no one even died - let alone the extermination of all mankind. I guess I should have paid my electric bill!

Good write up on the technology here by Scientific American.

And, the Wikipedia article on this going live was published the day it happened… nice job Wikipedia dudes.

Disney at it again?

Hanna candyIf this is real, I have to wonder if the Disney folks have started adding their subliminal porn to other outlets besides the movies.

I mean, really, no one who approves the package design on this saw the possibility of how it could be seen the wrong way?

Anyway, has anyone seen this product in a store or online?

My admittedley short search didn’t find any confirmations if the product was actually released.
